On October 14, 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) notified Congress of an extended list of telehealth services that Medicare will pay for during the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE).
The notification to Congress stated that Medicare will begin paying for 11 additional telehealth services, effective immediately. More information on newly added telehealth services and codes is available here.
CMS also released the State Medicaid & CHIP Telehealth Toolkit: Policy Considerations for States Expanding Use of Telehealth COVID-19 Version and the Services Delivered via Telehealth Among Medicaid & CHIP Beneficiaries During COVID-19. These documents serve to support state Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) agencies in their adoption and execution of telehealth and also to serve as a data depiction of telehealth use during the PHE.
